So, I'd like to first start off by addressing why some peoples skins aren't top notch and comparable with others. As you probably already know, there are several skin types. Dry, oily, and combination. I myself am cursed with combination skin with t-zone acne...it's not fun!
Teenagers are the main age group who are blessed (hah) with acne. This is because hormones cause the sebaceous glads in the face to produce an excess of oil, clogging pores and causing acne. Other things that can clog pores are the oil from your hands, makeup, and oil based cosmetic products. The main oil based cosmetic product that causes me to break out ( I am right now, because of it) is good old sunscreen.
Since it's summer time, I thought I'd throw in some sunscreen tidbits, eh?
- Spf 30 sunscreen offers 97% protection. Spf 60 offers 99% UV protection. However, anything above 60 doesn't offer any more protection, it just lasts longer. (fun fact, right? A higher SPF isn't always better.)
- Sun damage causes wrinkles
- African americans such as myself naturally have melanin in or skin. This only offers an spf protection of about 15, so we still need to wear sunscreen!
- A tan is caused by sun damage. It's your skin's way of protecting from additional damage caused by the sun. Keep that in mind next time you go to a tanning bed!
Remember to cleanse, tone, and moisturize. Even if you have oily skin, please don't stop moisturizing! If you don't, since your skin is temporarily dry, your skin produces even MORE oil to compensate for the dryness.
Well, hopefully you learned something that you didn't know before! I'll catch you later~
